Why Triathlon?!

Hey there! Thank you for visiting my blog! I am very excited to share with you my exciting journey as I train for the many triathlons in my future. Let’s go…

So, why triathlon? Everyone thinks I’m crazy whenever I tell them I do triathlons! My response? I say, “Whats crazy about waking up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday to ride 50 miles?!” I’m here to tell you there is nothing wrong with that and share with you why its all worth it…

Once I started training for my first Sprint triathlon (500m swim, 20K bike, 5K run) in the summer of 2011, I felt this newfound sense of power in my life. Power that you can only get from hitting the open road, where nothing matters but that never-ending stretch of pavement ahead of you. Whether I am on two feet, two wheels, or floating over a body of water – I am liberated. Nothing can stop me (except when I run out of breath and realize I’m outta shape!).

I know what you’re thinking, and you’re right, it’s tough!

The sport of triathlon is not for the weary, my friends. It does take a lot of time, endurance, motivation and willpower to succeed…and I’ll be the first to admit that in the beginning, I lacked the motivation to exercise, as well as the time management skills I needed for training. Don’t even get me started on my endurance level (or lack thereof).

But I didn’t give up. I had set a goal for myself. One that I knew was attainable and I refused to let myself down. (I also had the love and support of family and friends who motivated me along the way, which never hurt).

Focus on the good and you will be great!

Wait until I tell you about the second you cross the finish line and realize that all that hard work you put yourself through for months has finally paid off…that’s next, and that is the feeling I live for.

So that is why I have embarked on my journey of triathlon!
