Tri Training Update Week 5

This past week, work had to come first, and unfortunately it interfered with my workouts. :( Between traveling and sitting in meetings all day, I was just not able to have my daily two hour workouts. But knowing how important it is to be consistent and not fall out of my routine, I still managed to get in as much cardio as time allowed. I absolutely did not want all my hard work to be for nothing! And I knew that one week off could set me back quite a bit. Determined not to let that happen, here is the workout I was still able to sneak in:

  • Monday: 2 mile run + yoga
  • Tuesday: No workout :( (had to get ready for trip)
  • Wednesday: Travel Day
  • Thursday: 20 minute intense core workout
  • Friday: 35 minute run
  • Saturday: 35 minute run
  • Sunday: 1.5 miles on treadmill + full body workout + 2 mile hilly run (Home and back in action!)

The plus side to this week was that I was in Austin, Texas! Running in a new place is always fun and exciting. I love being able to run without really knowing just how far or challenging the run ahead will be. And being in a new city does exactly that! Between the city streets, University of Texas campus and the gorgeous Capitol Building, I was able to cover a lot of ground, observing the Texan culture along the way! And the high temperatures made for a killer sweat (and not too bad a tan either)! :)

So while I did have to give up more workout time, I’d say it was a fair trade to have the opportunity to experience a great new city on my own two feet! But now that I’m back home, the fun and games are over…

5K’s and Chocolate Bunnies

I usually use holidays as an excuse to not exercise and eat all I want. When I woke up this morning, I sat in bed, contemplating both sides of my argument: to exercise or not to exercise? That is the question.

I’ve got two races coming up in May…exercising won! Up I woke and out the door I ran!

I set out for a nice 5K with a few challenging hills. With some great tunes flowing through my headphones, I got into a nice rhythm, feeling all my hard work starting to pay off. My stamina is finally improving and I find that I can run longer without wanting to give in to fatigue. I really want to crush the run leg of my Sprint Tri this August!

The most intense hill of this run totally kicked my butt…I’ll get it eventually!

At this point, you’re probably beginning to wonder where the chocolate bunnies fit into this story…at the finish line! :)

I ran my 5K straight to my boyfriend’s house where we did our annual Easter basket hunt. What better way to recover after a 3 mile run than to stuff your face with chocolate?! I normally would not recommend this, but come on, it’s Easter, we’ll be okay!

Chocolate bunnies, Hershey kisses, Reese’s peanut butter cups…oh how I have missed your sweet deliciousness! I like to think of the chocolate as my reward for exercising on a holiday. :)

Happy Easter everyone! What’s left of my chocolate basket…not much!
